Spotify: Music and Podcasts
Is Spotify: Music and Podcasts free? Free with a Catch.
Pricing: The free tier streams music and podcasts with ads and limited skip/offline control, while Premium ($6.99-$21.99/month depending on plan) removes ads and adds offline downloads and full playback control, though the app itself has no App Store in-app purchase button and subscriptions are managed at spotify.com. Optional paid features: Premium Individual ($12.99/month); Premium Duo ($18.99/month); Premium Family (6 accounts) ($21.99/month); Premium Student ($6.99/month).
You can genuinely listen to music and podcasts without paying, but the free tier makes monetization impossible to ignore. Ads are frequent, mobile playback controls are restricted in some contexts, and Premium is needed for ad-free listening, offline music, and full playback control.
- The free tier provides access to a huge music and podcast catalog.
- Reviewers praise Spotify's recommendations and music-discovery algorithm.

- Playlists and personalized recommendations remain useful without Premium.
- Ads are a frequent complaint and interrupt free listening.
- Reviewers complain about restrictions on skips and control over what plays.
- Offline music downloads and uninterrupted ad-free listening require Premium.
- Recent reviews criticize interface changes, lag, and unwanted AI features.
