Snapchat
Is Snapchat free? Free with a Catch.
Pricing: Messaging and Snaps remain free with 5 GB of Memories storage, while Snapchat+ subscriptions, extra storage, and Snapstreak restores are paid options. Optional paid features: Snapchat+ Monthly Plan ($4.99/month); Memories Storage ($1.99 (billing period not specified on store listing)); Snapstreak Restore ($0.99); Snapstreak Restore ($1.49); Snapstreak Restore ($0.49).
Messaging friends and sending Snaps remain free, but ads, paid extras, and the new Memories storage limit now shape the experience much more than they used to. Snapchat gives 5GB of complimentary Memories storage; users over that limit need to trim their library or pay for more storage.
- Reviewers still value Snapchat as a quick way to stay connected with friends.
- Core photo/video messaging remains usable without a subscription.
- Up to 5GB of Memories cloud storage is included for free.
- Recent reviews repeatedly complain about paying for Memories storage after years of free use.
- Ads remain heavy enough that even Snapchat+ subscribers complain about seeing them.
- Unwanted Spotlight and promotional notifications are a recurring frustration.
- Reviews report crashes, account lockouts, and problems recovering accounts.
